Duet

Lately the neighbors dog, and his neighbor have been singing to one another.

Duet

Whether it's during the day or late at night, they're constantly communicating. This gave me great inspiration for the word duet.

Toy

Ever gone through your old things and find an old toy that's been repaired?

Toy

This is my illustration for Illustration Friday.
I tried to depict a toy a young girl that used to carry it around with her constantly and had gone through many repairs.

Cultivate

I thought of farming when I saw the new word on Illustration Friday (cultivate). So I went with the stereotypical farmer, but made him more hick like.

Cultivate

I'm trying to find a good balance between realistic and cartoon. At the same time I'm trying to figure out my drawing style throughout all of these illustrations.

Stir

There have been a lot of natural occurrences going on, this made me think of more to come and storms stirring. I tried to make it look like it was just the beginning of a massive storm.

Stir

The funnel cloud in the sky is just starting to come from the clouds and the whirlpool in the sea has already begun.

Warning

I tried to incorporate a simple design with some detail to it. I couldn't really come up with many ideas for Warning, all I knew is that I wanted something humorous.

International Woman's Day

This illustration was created for International Woman's Day.
I used home pictures of my Mom and my family as reference. The final work has a 4" border with sticky notes about my Mom's life.

2GD14_RachaelP_IWD

This image took several days to complete and I had asked for suggestions several times from my instructor Leif Peng. I think by the time I was satisfied with the look I had around 125 layers, I was afraid my Ps CS4 program was going to crash every time I made an adjustment to the illustration. All in all I think it turned out nicely and is a nice tribute to my Mother for Woman's Day.

Swarm

Here I created another cartoon image and created jpegs of the process. All of the work I have created so far has been on Adobe Photoshop CS4, using a medium sized Intuos 4 Wacom tablet.

Swarm

This image took several hours to complete and even more time for the thought process. I thought of several different types of swarms before I fell onto this idea. I wanted to keep it fun and interesting.

Process

The peanut and elephants are original creations, but in the background I used 3 different kinds of brushes I had found on deviant art. The clouds, buildings and grass were all brushes.

In the end I think this work turned out really well and fits together nicely.

Layer

I decided to go a different route with my drawing and created something more like cartoon clip art. It took longer for me to decide how I was going to create the work then it did to actually create it.

Layer

I went through several different possibilities before I came to this conclusion. The other illustrations looked to realistic to me and I wanted to keep the image simple and child like.

Getting McFired

After reading an article about an employee named Kyle, I drew the major image about him wanting to "stick it to the man".

McD's

He was employed at a McDonald's for less then a day, terrorizing the manager. The 3 characters at the bottom are meant to be humorous spot illustrations for amongest the type.

Sweater

I like a lot of Icanhazcheeseburger work, so I made a digital painting of one of their images.

For the word "Reverse" I thought of making the painting American Gothic into my own. Trying to find the original image online was quite comical, there are so many variations other individuals had created.

Reverse

This image took several hours and many, many layers. I used 4 photo references, 3 modern images and an image of the painting I was recreating.

Surrender

I was really inspired when I created this image, I think this may be the earliest I have submitted work to IF (Illustration Friday). It was difficult at first, I wasn't very sure what I was going to create when I first saw the word of the week "Surrender".

Surrender

3hours and 21 layers later, this is what I came up with.
I tried using the Rough Round Bristle brush on Photoshop CS4 for the majority of the illustration.

Chicken Dance

I created this image on the 17th of January for the group Illustration Friday on Flickr. I also drew this image with the Wacom Intuos4 Med size, in Photoshop CS4.

Chicken

For this illustration I used approx. 21 layers and looked at several images of Roosters for photo reference.

Dusty

This is an image I drew with the Wacom Intuos4 Med size, in Photoshop CS4. I submitted this to the group Illustration Friday on Flickr, the word of that week was 'dusty'.

dusty

When I thought of the word dusty, I thought of the Old West and the horses in Old Western movies that always created large clouds of dust.
I wanted to make this image realistic, but at a closer look, not at all. The horses are quite choppy but I like the look, it makes them almost seem as if they are made of dust. I tried to use that same idea in the background.

For the illustration I used approx. 25 layers and it was around 2-3 hours later that I decided it was complete.
